How To Keep Your Social Media Accounts Secure?

Table of Contents

Whether you’re an influencer or just a recreational user on social media, your account security is paramount.  Social media has become a critical part of life. With so much content being uploaded daily on individual user accounts, it’s quite a catalog of a person’s daily life.

The highlighted product of our lives is maintained on social media.  But imagine, for a reason or another, you were hacked.  Now you’re locked out with no way to recover your data.

In general, people don’t take all the necessary steps to secure their social media accounts. This leaves the door open for hackers to steal your information and deny you access.

Here are a few ways to best secure your social media accounts.

Strong password

The first thing to do to secure your social media is to create a password that’s not easy to guess.  Strong passwords usually contain numbers and symbols along with both lowercase and uppercase letters.  This makes it harder for hackers to get in.

Choose a harder password but not so much that you get locked out too.

Regularly change passwords

Regularly changing your passwords prevents complacency hence carelessness.  This is likely to be true if you’ve been using the same devices for a long time.  Changing your password regularly ensures that any previously used devices no longer have access to your social media account.

It’s recommended that you change your passwords once every three months. In addition, avoid using the same password across all your devices.

Two-factor authentications

Two-factor authentications are likely the easiest and most efficient way to secure your account.  Since you have to log in by using two different sources of information even, if a hacker gets into one device or platform, they still won’t have your password.

To ensure an authentic log in, the randomly generated One Time Passwords (OTP) can be sent to you on your cell phone number, Google Authenticaton, or email.

Use only trusted third-party apps

Many people use third-party apps across different devices to manage their social media accounts.  This involves granting the app access to your account. However, some applications may perform certain nefarious actions through your account, like posting online.

Therefore, you must be very cautious when granting third-party apps such access.  Make sure that they’re trusted and verified to avoid any security breaches.
